The Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) to take full ownership of the reliability, performance, and security of our critical database platforms. In this operational and engineering-led role, you will be instrumental in maintaining our high-availability, high-traffic online systems.

You will be responsible for operating and optimizing production databases across a diverse technological landscape including MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, all within dynamic cloud environments. This role involves close collaboration with our DevOps, Platform, and Software Engineering teams to ensure our database infrastructure remains stable, scalable, secure, and performs optimally in an always-on environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Operating and maintaining production databases across all platforms.
• Ensuring high availability, replication, and failover mechanisms are robustly implemented and tested.
• Designing, implementing, and operating comprehensive backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Planning and executing database upgrades, patches, and maintenance with minimal downtime.
• Participating actively in production incidents, troubleshooting, and conducting thorough post-incident root cause analysis.
• Monitoring database health, capacity, and performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
• Tuning queries, indexes, schemas, and configurations to meet exacting performance and scalability requirements.
• Supporting engineering teams with query optimisation and efficient schema design.
• Performing capacity planning to accommodate traffic growth, peak usage, and new features.
• Implementing and enforcing database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Managing users, roles, and permissions according to least-privilege principles, ensuring sensitive data protection.
• Working with Security Engineers to align database security controls with enterprise standards.

About you

You are a seasoned Database Administrator with a strong hands-on background in managing high-transactional database environments. You possess a deep understanding of database internals, performance tuning, and robust security practices. You thrive in a collaborative setting and are committed to maintaining an always-on, high-performing database infrastructure.

• Proven experience in database administration across various platforms.
• Strong understanding of database replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
• Expertise in performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Demonstrable experience with database security principles and implementation.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
