Top 8 Ways to Impress Your Interviewer

You did it! You submitted a brilliant CV and application (no doubt using our Top Tips to writing a Killer CV), and now, you’ve been called in for an interview.

Interviews can be intimidating, and it’s easy to get carried away with a long line of ‘what if’ thinking. But don’t worry. We’ve got you from here...

We’ve compiled a list of tips from those who know the tech industry best, so your interviewer can raise their eyebrows and think, “we have GOT to hire this person”.

We asked 8 Tech Specialists who have experience in the tech industry, what would impress them, and this is what they said…

“Many things! But passion, curiosity, the ability and excitement to learn, and the ability to easily and quickly change their point of view. I think those are great skills for solving problems.

When hiring someone, I wouldn't pay as much attention to the solution and the exact correctness as I would pay to those things and the process of analysing and solving a problem.”

2. Shai AlmogFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“I hire people. Not test results.

If people can communicate calmly on a technical level and are able to reflect on their own faults. They're emotionally mature. That makes them a good part of the team.

We can teach technical stuff. That improves.

Taking someone "in a bad place" into your team can have a devastating impact.”

3. Kilian KlugeFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“When someone can clearly communicate how their particular work fits in the broader context and demonstrates that they're looking left and right as they move along.”

4. Domenik ReitznerFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“When they are passionate about something and want to continue growing and learning. If he has someone who wants to learn but is less qualified, he usually goes for that person.”

5. Daniel StrmeckiFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“I am always impressed with people who care about the work they are doing and always need to understand the "why" behind everything they are doing. These are usually people asking hard questions and challenging the status quo.”

6. Heitor SilvaFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“When their CV is very well written, with short and precise descriptions of what the person achieved, instead of generic sentences that don’t tell me anything about the projects or challenges the person faced.

When talking to the person, I get detailed answers over the same thing, showing me the person is passionate or was really focused on what was being accomplished.”

7. Ashley JiangFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“Their attitude towards new knowledge and failure. If they are able to be optimistic and open-minded.”

8. Ekaterina SirazitdinovaFile:LinkedIn logo initials.png - Wikimedia Commons

“Their ability to solve problems autonomously and think out of the box.”
